Marriage, Counseling & Divorce Services

Marriage is a vital part of Islamic life, and at Thamesmead Islamic Centre, we recognise the importance of supporting couples at every stage—before, during, and if necessary, at the end of their marriage. Our services are designed to reflect the values of Islam while being sensitive to our community’s personal and emotional needs.

Whether you are seeking to get married, need guidance during challenging times, or require assistance with an Islamic divorce, we are here to help in a respectful, confidential, and professional manner.

Islamic Marriage (Nikah) Services: We conduct Nikah ceremonies in accordance with Islamic guidelines, led by a qualified Imam. Our service includes a short pre-marital meeting to ensure both parties understand the rights and responsibilities involved, as outlined in the Qur’an and Sunnah.

Nikahs are carried out in the masjid or at a suitable location by arrangement. Both bride and groom must consent, and appropriate witnesses and documentation are required. We can also provide official Nikah certificates after the ceremony.

We advise all couples to register their marriage legally through a civil ceremony, as our Nikah is a religious contract and does not replace a UK civil marriage.

“When a man marries, he has fulfilled half of his religion.”

— Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (al-Bayhaqi, Shu’ab al-Iman)

Marriage Counselling and Advice: All couples go through ups and downs, and Islam encourages seeking help rather than suffering in silence. We provide marriage counselling to support couples through communication issues, emotional distance, or other challenges. Sessions are private, non-judgmental, and focused on finding resolution through mutual respect and understanding.

Counselling is available for both individuals and couples and is conducted by our Imam or trusted professionals, depending on the nature of the issue. Advice is always offered with compassion and rooted in Islamic principles.

Islamic Divorce (Talaq & Khula): In cases where reconciliation is not possible, we provide guidance on the Islamic process of divorce, whether initiated by the husband (Talaq) or by the wife (Khula). We ensure that the process is carried out with fairness, dignity, and under Shariah principles.

Our team handles such matters with complete confidentiality and offers follow-up support if needed. We also assist with issuing Islamic divorce certificates and any required documentation.

May Allah ﷻ bring peace and barakah to every marriage and guide us in all our relationships.
