Thamesmead Islamic Centre exists to serve the Muslim community with sincerity, unity, and respect. These Community Guidelines are in place to ensure that our mosque, programmes, online spaces, and services remain welcoming, safe, and in line with the values taught in the Qur’an and Sunnah.
All members of the community, visitors, volunteers, and website users are kindly expected to observe the following principles when engaging with the Centre, both in person and online.
Respect and Manners
Islam encourages us to treat one another with respect, kindness, and dignity in all situations. Whether attending prayers, joining classes, participating in events, or communicating through our website, everyone is expected to behave in a courteous and respectful manner.
This means speaking politely, avoiding arguments or offensive language, and showing care and patience with others—regardless of age, background, or level of understanding. Creating a peaceful and welcoming environment is a shared responsibility, and it starts with good character and mutual respect.
Appropriate Behaviour Within the Centre
The mosque is the house of Allah ﷻ and should be treated with honour and reverence. Visitors are expected to dress modestly, maintain cleanliness, and respect the sanctity of the prayer areas. Children are welcome but should be supervised to avoid disruption during salah or lectures. Any form of argument, disorderly behaviour, or disrespectful conduct is not acceptable.
Inclusivity and Unity
Our Centre welcomes Muslims from all backgrounds and ethnicities. With over 60 nationalities represented in our congregation, it is essential to maintain unity and avoid division. We do not tolerate racism, sectarian speech, or any behaviour that harms brotherhood or sisterhood in Islam. All are encouraged to support one another in a spirit of cooperation and compassion.
Use of Facilities and Resources
The use of Centre facilities, including prayer halls, classrooms, and community spaces, must be done responsibly. All members are expected to help maintain cleanliness and follow any posted notices or instructions from the Centre’s team. Events and classes must be pre-approved by the administration to ensure alignment with our values and capacity.
Online Engagement and Website Use
When using our website, submitting contact forms, or engaging with our content online, please do so respectfully. The website should not be used to send inappropriate messages, spread misinformation, or promote personal agendas. Any online donations or enquiries should be made with sincerity and clarity.
Feedback and Concerns
We value constructive feedback and are always open to hearing how we can improve. If you have concerns about conduct, services, or facilities, please raise them respectfully through the appropriate channels. Personal grievances should be handled privately and in accordance with Islamic manners.
Working Together for the Sake of Allah
This Centre belongs to the community, and we are all responsible for maintaining its peace and purpose. By following these guidelines, we protect the sanctity of the mosque, preserve unity among believers, and contribute to a space that pleases Allah ﷻ.
