At Thamesmead Islamic Centre, Islamic education is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that seeking knowledge is a lifelong duty for every Muslim, and we are committed to offering accessible, authentic, and engaging learning opportunities for our community—children, youth, and adults alike.
Our programmes are rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah, delivered in a way relevant to the lives of Muslims living in the UK today. Whether you are looking to build your foundation or deepen your understanding, our classes are designed to support spiritual growth, good character, and a closer connection to Allah ﷻ.
Children’s Qur’an & Islamic Studies: We run structured Qur’an and Islamic Studies classes for children, focusing on correct recitation, Tajweed, and understanding the basics of Islam. These classes are taught in small groups by qualified, caring teachers who understand the importance of building a positive early relationship with the Deen. Alongside the Qur’an, children learn about the pillars of Islam, prayer, Islamic manners, stories of the Prophets, and how to apply Islamic values in their daily lives.
Our teaching approach balances discipline with encouragement, aiming to instil love for the Qur’an and respect for Islamic knowledge from a young age. Parents are kept informed of their child’s progress, and we welcome feedback and involvement.
“Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.”
— Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Sunan Ibn Majah, 224)
Youth & Teen Classes: We understand the challenges young Muslims face growing up in a fast-paced, often confusing world. Our youth-focused sessions address real-life topics through the lens of Islamic guidance, covering issues like identity, peer pressure, social media, and decision-making. These sessions also include interactive Q&A, group discussions, and mentorship, offering a safe space for questions and personal development.
Adult Education & Revert Support: For adults looking to learn or reconnect with Islamic knowledge, we offer accessible classes at beginner and intermediate levels. These may include Arabic reading, understanding selected surahs, the meaning and practice of Salah, and introductions to Hadith and Seerah. Classes are open to both brothers and sisters, with some sessions delivered in English to support those newer to the faith or those who prefer learning in their native language.
Weekend and Evening Schedules: Most classes are held in the evenings or on weekends to accommodate work and school commitments. Timetables are published monthly, and new students are welcome to enrol at any time, subject to availability.
For more information on current class schedules, how to register, or to speak with our education team, don’t hesitate to contact us via the contact page. May Allah ﷻ make us all from those who seek beneficial knowledge and act upon it.
